Text and pictures by Ulysses Aoki and Benedetta Ristori
U. Aoki The first day in a new area is always magical, especially with a camera.
B.Ristori First day in Tokyo, I woke up in a neighborhood that I had never been, I decided to go out and walk, explore the narrow streets and small shops of the neighborhood that usuallyUlysses frequents.
It’s a cloudy Monday and the streets are quiet, but the people I choose to photograph are welcoming and ask me questions about Italy and Rome and ask me what I think about Tokyo.
U. Aoki What I personally like to do is try to fit in, eat the same foods, dress in a local manner. Embrace what’s in front of me, and intuitively respond to the scenes that unveil.
B. Ristori I think Tokyo is immense, it has a thousand nuances.
B. Ristori I see it continuing the day going to the loud Shibuya, losing myself in skyscrapersand LED lights, cosplay girls and noisy multi-department stores.
U.Aoki I try to think about how “good” the images are or what other photographers are doing in the area after this first process.
