FLIGHT CROSSING / Day 5 / NEW PERSPECTIVES

Text and pictures by Ulysses Aoki and Benedetta Ristori

U.Aoki After seeing a few of my favorite photographers’ images of ancient Claudio Aqueduct , I was keen to go see it for myself. Upon arrival, I was struck by the pure scale of the area. The beautiful light hitting the grass, the grand Aqueducts going on forever along the horizon .

B. Ristori Started the day from the top of Tokyo City View Observatory, 250 meters above sea level, looking at the city floating in the grey fog, everything seems endlessly vast.

B. Ristori Because I always like contrasts, I continued and finished my daily exploration on the opposite side, completely immerse into tiny narrow streets of Golden Gai District and Omoide Yokocho in Shinjuku Almost 200 bars stacked up into small houses, some of them have only two seats available. I was only allowed to take pictures of empty spaces to respect the costumer’s privacy, but I preferred that, to create somehow a pause into that fascinating, claustrophobic and mysterious spaces.
