Simone Cerio (b.1983) is an Italian documentary photographer, specializing in visual journalism.
Always interested in hybrid languages, his
images possess a narrative that highlights
the importance of the deep relationship with the other.
The thread that binds his works is the theme of identity and inequality, through the use of an extremely intimate story-telling. The visual research offered by Simone often focuses on
stories that have first a documentary value, but with a strong interpretative meaning, bordering on performance. The union of both visions aims to generate a space of confrontation in which the terms “investigation,” “research,” and “archive” slowly become distinctive features of each project.
Best known for his research on believing LGBT communities, titled RELIGO, and work on the topic of sexual assistance for people with disabilities, LOVE GIVERS. Projects that
earned him international awards including the Wellcome Photography Prize in the “Hidden Worlds” category.
A contributor to NGOs, Agencies and Institutions, he is also a lecturer in photography
and creative director of CONTESTO, a photography space in Abruzzo, collaborates with national and international publications and has exhibited his work in Italy and abroad.
He is represented by CERAVENTO Gallery.
