Giacomo De Stefano
I am Giacomo De Stefano, born in the 1988 in Milano.
I have been living in Australia and New Zealand a couple of years, then I spent 6 years in Bristol UK, and I recently moved back in Milano, where I am based.
I work mainly building Sceneries, but I have a passion for photography and storytelling that drive me to continuously find incredible stories and people.
My main project at the moment is a documentary I am producing with a good friend, a director. I found and amazing character in Ghana, a founder of a religion, that has many companies, one of which produce armored vehicles, I investigated, hooked by the unreported pearl, in 2023 after an year of reading and writing, we went in Ghana to shoot it, and should be ready in September.
I worked around the world with traveling TV shows, movies, spots and Lives as a Set Builder. This gave me the opportunity to work and meet many carpenters, tailors, decorators and retailers from every continent. I felt a sense of vicinity that I wanted to share, so I started photographing those workers.
The intention is to do a parallelism of portraits, evoking an internationalist no border message.
Sharing the same days, joys and struggles, there are more common grounds between people of the same Class then between people of the same Nation.
In those times of Nationalism rise, I want to share this vicinity I felt.
After few experiences as volunteer in Calais refugee camp and with Louise Michel rescue ship, I felt like I could do a lot with photography, it can help me express concepts, emotions and ideas, in ways that words often cannot.
